DELAWARE COUNTY BELL
RELOCATION
100 W MAIN ST.
MUNCIE IN 47305
Courthouse Bell from its current site at the former Justice Center (now Washington Square Residences) to a new permanent location directly across the street at the Delaware County Building. The bell is a historic architectural feature and must be relocated without alteration to its appearance, orientation, or presentation.
This project includes dismantling (as needed), transporting, reconstructing, and reinstalling the bell and its supporting architectural elements, including all structural and brickwork components, in a manner that results in a finished installation that looks exactly as it does today.
The current installation consists of:
- A historic courthouse bell mounted on a set of precast concrete support fingers forming the bell stand.
- A round concrete foundation, which cannot be relocated. Must be recreated at the new location.
- Associated brickwork and architectural elements that must be preserved, protected, and reinstalled in an identical configuration. (It is stamped concrete not brickwork, will be identically replicated.)
- A site that has landscape and surface materials that must be protected during removal.
- 3.1.1- Provide fencing or protective barriers as needed for public safety.
- 3.1.2- Protect all architectural elements—including brickwork, precast members, and the bell—from damage during removal.
- 3.1.3- Document, as necessary, the current condition of the bell and all structural/architectural elements (photos, measurements, diagrams).
