The Academic Decathlon Team Coach, Lori Morris, thanked Council for recognizing the team’s achievements. She shared that she is very proud of the team’s dedication to maintain the Oakwood standard of excellence. She also thanked the parents, school principal and superintendent for their support of the program.

Vice Mayor Byington asked the Academic Decathlon team members to share their name as well as their experiences. The following team members addressed Council: Clay Goertemiller shared that he just graduated from high school and he will be attending Case Western Reserve University. He feels that Academic Decathlon has been an amazing experience. It has been a place to have fun with his friends and a way to find a community where he belongs. Will Janning just completed his sophomore year in high school. He feels that Academic Decathlon has taught him a lot about the Oakwood community and has helped him make a lot of new friends. It has taught him about time management and organization skills. Sam Carryer was a junior last year in high school. He feels that Academic Decathlon has helped improve his grades and will allow him an opportunity for a post-secondary education. Cameron Hendrix just completed his sophomore year in high school. He feels that Academic Decathlon has given him the ability to hone in his skills across ten separate areas in real life skills that will be necessary for his future. Rey Arcenas shared that he just graduated from high school and he will be attending Tulane University. He feels that Academic Decathlon has taught him how to study better and how to speak publicly, it has also mainly been about the comradery and the relationship building. John Jones shared that he just graduated from high school and he will be attending Wright State University. He feels that Academic Decathlon has helped him gain confidence in public speaking, and building relationships with team members. Matt Koch shared that he just graduated from high school and he will be attending Wittenberg University. He feels that Academic Decathlon has helped him improve his grades and get into college, as well as make new friends. Connor Hart shared that he just graduated from high school and he will be attending University of Pennsylvania. Academic Decathlon has meant a lot to him, including a strong sense of community.

Mayor Duncan shared that there are expenses that come along with the Academic Decathlon Team. He was proud to donate because he knows the value of the program. He urged citizens to support the program and shared that donations can be made payable to the Oakwood High School and specified that they are for the Academic Decathlon Team. He gave a final congratulation to the Academic Decathlon Team on their many accomplishments, and the team then departed the meeting.

A copy of the ordinance, having been placed on the desks of each member of Council prior to introduction, was read by title.

Mr. Stephens explained that this ordinance is the final piece of last year’s sidewalk project, and assesses the costs that have not already been paid directly by affected homeowners.

Thereupon, it was moved by Mr. Stephens and seconded by Mrs. Hilton that the resolution be passed.

Upon call of the roll on the question of the motion, the following vote was recorded:
