A copy of the resolution, having been placed on the desks of each member of Council prior to introduction, was read by title.
Mayor Duncan explained that this is a resolution to implement part of the Pointe Oakwood Settlement Agreement that was approved by Council on March 20, 2017, and adopted by the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on March 21, 2017. A component of that settlement was the agreement that Oakwood Investment Group and Hills Developers, Inc., would abandon their plans to build condominiums at the southeast corner of Pointe Oakwood, which is the intersection of Far Hills and West Schantz Avenues. Instead, that area is being re-platted to create 4 single family residential lots and a small public greenspace.
In order to implement that agreement, OIG and Hills have formally withdrawn all applications to build condominiums at the southeast corner of the development. Council’s part of the agreement requires a resolution vacating all prior approvals of condominiums at that corner. The effect of this resolution will be to revert to the original Master Plan as it pertains to that corner, which approved this area for single family residential uses and a small public greenspace.
Thereupon, it was moved by Mayor Duncan and seconded by Mr. Epley that the resolution be passed.
Vice Mayor Byington recused himself as he resides near the proposed condominiums.
Upon call of the roll on the question of the motion, the following vote was recorded:
There being four (4) yea votes and no (0) nay votes thereon, said resolution was declared duly passed and it was so ordered.
Leisure Services Report: Ms. Carol Collins, Leisure Services Director, delivered the following report:
Gardner Pool opened over Memorial Day weekend and there are 448 family pool memberships purchased, 91 single memberships and 66 senior memberships. The Oakwood Community Center has three “Summer Fun at the Pool” family nights planned in 2017. The dates are Sunday, June 25; Sunday, July 23; and, Sunday, August 13. The pool staff will organize relay races and fun games throughout the night. The pool will close at 9 p.m. on all three nights, one hour later than normal.
The Oakwood Dolphins have dominated their league with over 160 swimmers. They have taken first place every year for the past 14+ years. The registration deadline for the upcoming season was Sunday, June 4 and practice began on Monday, June 5.
The Gardner Pool staff offers swim lessons beginning for toddlers with parents all the way to advanced Level V and VI. The lessons are certified by the American Red Cross and in 2016, there were over 275 participants.
The 9th annual Dog Splash is scheduled for Sunday, September 10 from 1 – 3 p.m. There were 45 participants in the 2016 Dog Splash event.
The Smith Gardens Legacy Paver Project is a great opportunity to leave a lasting legacy and to be an integral part of the lovely garden. Individual brick pavers can be purchased in honor of or in recognition of a friend or family member, or to celebrate an anniversary or special occasion. To date, there have been 309 bricks sold and installed, with profit at about $18,000 to date. Pavers are also being placed in the driveway to Smith Gardens.
The Smith Gardens Blanket Concerts are scheduled for Sunday, June 11 at 7 p.m. – MADCAP PUPPETS; Sunday, July 9 at 7 p.m. – FOURTH AVENUE; and, Sunday, August 6 at 7 p.m. – HONEY & HOUSTON. Hundreds of people enjoy these concerts every summer by bringing their families, blankets and chairs to relax in the beauty of Smith Gardens. In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the OCC.
