Commissioners’ Questions

Chairperson Nelson asked who would be responsible for verifying that the earthwork and berms meet the required standard.

Mike Gottfredson stated that the Planning Division is responsible for verification and enforcement of conditional use permits.

Applicant Comments

Alarik Myrin spoke on behalf of the application. He stated that the proposed operation would be a shooting academy and closed shooting range and that the range would be used only by students under supervision. He discussed the standard operating procedures, road access, water and wastewater, the proposed berms, fencing, signage, and the requested adjustment to the long-range backstop height.

Ayla Myrin stated that the purpose of the academy is to teach safe and responsible firearm use, including concealed carry, basic pistol, basic rifle, and long-range rifle instruction.

Questions & Discussion

Chairperson Nelson asked about fencing, warning flags, safety procedures, the backstop height, and whether a range safety officer would be on site.

Alarik Myrin and Ayla Myrin stated that the site is remote, that warning flags would be used, and that a range safety officer would be present during instruction.

Duncan Kading asked whether customers would meet on site or follow staff to the site.

Ayla Myrin stated that classes requiring classroom time would meet at the guest house and then follow her to the range. She stated that other classes could meet on site or at the gate.
