The proposed parking lot is not pedestrian-friendly and is being placed in a path where children walk to school.Oakwood has safe and well-maintained sidewalks throughout the City, including along E. Schantz Avenue and Collingwood Avenue. When a vehicle enters or exits the parking lot, the driver is required to yield to pedestrians on the sidewalk. This condition exists in all around Oakwood, including at every residential, commercial, and institutional driveway or parking lot where there is a sidewalk.
Kids walk through the existing tennis facility to get to the Oakwood Community Center (OCC), which is great.The new facility is designed for tennis play, and not for pedestrian traffic. New sidewalks are included outside the tennis facility for safe travel to and from the OCC.
The existing facility has a water fountain which is awesome and is not seen at any other public tennis facilities.The new facility will also have a water fountain.
This parking lot will most certainly lead to large lights being installed in the future.There are no plans to place additional lighting in this residential area.
Having the Oakwood High School tennis teams use the facility in the spring and fall makes Shafor Park safer.The Oakwood High School teams will use the new facility in the spring and fall each year going forward. The facility will officially be the home of Oakwood High School tennis. Enclosed is drawing that shows the sign that will be erected at the corner of E. Schantz Avenue and Collingwood Avenue.
The existing facility has a bleacher in the middle of the courts and that makes it special.The new facility will have bleachers on the east and west ends which will be accessible to spectators and players.
Our neighborhood park was designed for “our” neighborhood.Not sure exactly what this means. All Oakwood parks and public facilities are designed for everyone’s use.
Tennis balls hit over the fence will bounce in the parking lot and be a danger.Balls hit over the existing tennis facility fence can and do occasionally land on Collingwood, on E. Schantz, and in Gardner Pool.
When you put in a parking lot, you are “sending a message to the whole county to come on in”.Not sure exactly what this means.
Bleachers on the ends require that you walk behind people playing tennis.The new facility will have access gates on the east and west sides so spectators can access the bleachers without interrupting players.
