Michael Guess, 12110 S. CR 700E., Losantville, Indiana appeared with his wife Dawn Guess. He stated that they were requesting approval for a 15’ x 30’ addition to their home for his father to allow him some privacy but to be close in case he needed any assistance. He stated that they had started the construction and later realized they needed permits and the variance.
Dawn Guess stated that this was an addition to their home with a door to separate them and that they had no intentions of using this as a rental in the future.
Ms. Mathewson asked about another dwelling on the property that was to be removed.
Ms. Guess stated that they had been working on it but then with COVID and other circumstances it got put on hold. She stated that it is still their intention to remove that dwelling.
Ms. Swackhamer stated that the applicant had been working with Mr. Fouch and that they he was fine with giving them until the end of this summer to finish the removal of that dwelling.
Commissioner Brand appeared in support and asked the board to vote in favor.
No one appeared in opposition.
Mr. Hamilton made a motion to approve BZA 17-26 the appeal filed by Michael and Dawn Guess with the hardship as stated in the application with the following conditions; 1) That the applicant continue to work with the County Building Commissioner to ensure the addition is up to residential code; 2) That the separation walls be taken down after Bob’s use; and 3) That the dwelling shall not be used as a rental unit. Mr. Hinds seconded the motion. Voting in favor: Mr. Billington, Ms. Fritch, Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Hinds, Mr. Ivy, Ms. Knapp, and Ms. Mathewson. Voting against: None. Motion carried (7-0), BZA 17-26 approved.

Being a public hearing on the matter of an application filed by Mt. Calvary COGIC, requesting a variance from the terms of the City of Muncie Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, to allow a reduced rear setback for an addition to an existing church in a residence zone, on premises located at 1525 East Butler Street, Muncie, Indiana, as more accurately described in the application.
Mason Olson, appeared to represent the applicant. He stated that they currently have programs such as a food and clothing pantry, blood pressure testing, diabetes testing, an arcade, community events like easter egg hunts and town hall meetings and that they were running out of room and that they would like to add a 5,000 square foot addition.
