The Oakwood Municipal Court was established on January 1, 1934. Its authority is derived from Section 1901.01 of the Ohio Revised Code, and its territorial jurisdiction coincides with the corporate limits of Oakwood. The Court’s mission is to provide equitable and courteous justice to the public.
Judge Margaret M. Quinn was elected to a six-year term beginning January 2, 2014, and re-elected for a second term beginning January 2, 2020. The Court staff includes Clerk of Court Sarah Clever and Deputy Clerk Melanie Hornung. The Judge is on call for the issuance of warrants, search warrants, and to set bond. Jury Trials are held when requested by a Defendant, and residents may be summoned to serve as jurors. The Judge enjoys being called upon to officiate weddings, which can be scheduled through the Clerk’s Office.
The Oakwood Municipal Court implemented the License Intervention Program (LIP) in 2021. This program is designed to give drivers who are currently under license suspension by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles the time and information necessary to cure the suspension issues and become valid licensed drivers again. In 2024, the Court had 28 participants enter the program and 25 who successfully completed it.
The Oakwood Municipal Court has also implemented a Record Search feature that provides easy online access to publicly available Court records. Searches can be performed by name, date, case number, and ticket number through the city’s website at court.oakwoodohio.gov (see Municipal Court tab under Departments.)
