and Preliminary Repair Work Performed on a Borough-Owned
2006 Sterling Dump Truck and Authorizing the Disposal of Said Vehicle by
Auction in the amount of $5,754.38
Whereas, the Borough of Somerville is the owner of a 2006 Sterling dump truck, designated as Vehicle No. 8, bearing Vehicle Identification Number 2F2ACHCS26AW64100 and License Plate No. MG70877, assigned to the Department of Public Works; and
Whereas, the vehicle sustained significant water damage that rendered the engine inoperable, and the vehicle was towed to Appolonia Inc. Air Brake & Equipment, 225 Route 22 West, Hillside, New Jersey 07205, with the intent of the Director of Public Works at that time to have the vehicle evaluated for possible refurbishment; and
Whereas, the vendor evaluated the mechanical needs of the vehicle and performed preliminary work, including draining the engine, transmission, and fuel tank, removing the engine from the truck, and disassembling certain components, at which time it was determined that the engine and transmission were internally seized and that repair would require a new engine, transmission, and wiring repairs; and
Whereas, upon estimating costs for repairs, the Borough determined that it was not in the Borough’s best interest to proceed with any additional repair work, and the vehicle has since remained at the vendor’s yard; and
Whereas, the vendor has submitted a quotation, Order No. 424710 dated July 15, 2026, in the amount of $5,754.38 for contract labor performed in connection with the evaluation and preliminary work described above; and
Whereas, Purchase Order No. 26-01302 has been issued for said work; and
Whereas, the Chief Financial Officer has certified that funds are available for this purpose; and
Whereas, the vehicle is no longer needed for public use and the Borough has determined that it is in the best interest of the Borough to dispose of the vehicle by public auction or, if no acceptable offers are received, by sale as scrap, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:11-36.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Borough Council of the Borough of Somerville, County of Somerset, State of New Jersey, as follows:
- Payment in the amount of $5,754.38 is hereby authorized to Appolonia Inc. Air Brake & Equipment, 225 Route 22 West, Hillside, New Jersey 07205, for evaluation and preliminary repair work performed on Vehicle No. 8, a 2006 Sterling dump truck, pursuant to Purchase Order No. 26-01302.
- The 2006 Sterling dump truck, Vehicle No. 8, VIN 2F2ACHCS26AW64100, is hereby declared surplus property no longer needed for public use.
