could lower the value of the surrounding properties. She stated that the property was not well maintained and that there were large crates, tall grass, and wood piles along the electric fence. She stated that they moved to this area to have peace and be in a residential setting. She asked if approved what steps would be taken to ensure that it would not be used for commercial or farming activities.

Mr. Wiseley stated that if granted, if any conditions placed were not being followed, they should call the County Building Commissioner for enforcement.

Kris Dishman, 9441 N CR 600 W, Gaston Indiana, appeared in opposition. She stated that she wanted to thank her neighbors for conveying everyone’s concerns so well. She stated that there were already variances for buildings on the property and asked how many could be approved for one property and when would it stop.

Tiffany Kerrigan, 6210 N CR 600 W, Gaston, Indiana, appeared. She stated that there had already been variances approved for structures and that the wasn’t anything comparable in the area. She stated that it was a concern that if granted there would be more requests for larger structures in the area.

Mr. Collins stated that the previous variances were not his, and that the barn he wanted to build was $70,000 and would not bring down anyone’s property value. He stated that he did have 6 acres in total and that he was not responsible for any of his neighbors being in a low area. He stated that he did have a fence all around his property because he had people that were on his property using it like it was their own. He stated that he did not break any laws by installing his fence and that he worked hard and spent money on his things and did not want to have them outside attracting attention. He stated that he had a 4-wheeler but if he used then his family would have to walk back and forth.

Mr. Ivy asked if Mr. Collins had talked to any of the neighbors.

Mr. Collins stated that he had not, they did not really get along. He stated that the barn did not affect anyone’s wellbeing, it was all about him fencing in his property.

(Audience member asked if the Board had received their petition)

Ms. Swackhamer stated that everything that had been submitted had been provided to the Board members for consideration.

Mr. Collins stated that the wood and brush on his property actually came from some of the neighbors so he could mulch it. He stated that he had even helped his neighbors with their driveways.

Ms. Swackhamer stated that the she spoke to Mr. Thomas, County Engineer, and that his letter read “I am not concerned with drainage issues with adding a 44’ x 60’ pole barn.
