Whereas, the Community Energy Plan is consistent with the State's New Jersey Energy Master Plan goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2050 and advances the health, safety, and sustainability of the Borough of Somerville and its residents; and

Whereas, adoption of the Community Energy Plan is a condition of the NJBPU grant agreement and will fulfill the Borough's obligations thereunder; and

Whereas, the Borough Council has reviewed the Community Energy Plan as prepared by T&M Associates and finds it to be in the public interest;

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Borough Council of the Borough of Somerville, County of Somerset, State of New Jersey, as follows:

  1. 1. The Borough Council hereby adopts the Borough of Somerville Community Energy Plan as prepared by Gail E. Lalla, Client Portfolio Leader, and Daniel L. Hauben of T&M Associates, demonstrating the Borough's commitment to a clean energy future and a sustainable quality of life for its residents and businesses.
  2. 2. The strategies enumerated in the Community Energy Plan shall serve as the Borough's guiding framework for clean energy initiatives and shall be incorporated into the Borough's ongoing planning and capital improvement efforts as appropriate.
  3. 3. The Mayor, Borough Clerk/Administrator, and all appropriate Borough officials or designees are hereby authorized and directed to transmit proof of adoption of this Resolution to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in satisfaction of the requirements of Grant Agreement No. 2025-CEP-Somerville-00082, and to execute any additional certifications or documentation required to close out the grant.
  4. 4. A copy of this Resolution and the adopted Community Energy Plan shall be maintained on file in the Office of the Borough Clerk and shall be made available to the public in accordance with the Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.
  5. 5. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
