Dear San Rafael Community,
Have you been to the refreshed Downtown Carnegie Library yet? If you missed it, this past fall we were thrilled to re-open the Downtown Library after much-needed infrastructure updates. In addition to thoughtfully redesigned public spaces, the library team has been hard at work creating engaging and inclusive programs, developing a rich and diverse collection, and providing the high-quality service that our community values.
With the re-opening of the historic Carnegie Downtown Library, we also launched the Love Your Library initiative, celebrating everything our libraries offer. From early literacy programs to technology access, from cultural events to quiet study spaces, there is truly something for everyone at the San Rafael Public Libraries. The initiative is connecting more residents with the full range of library offerings, inspiring new visitors to discover what makes our libraries truly special, and highlighting the everyday value we bring to the community.
None of this would be possible without the support of our community, particularly through your ongoing support for library funding. About one third of the Library’s day-to-day operations are funded by Measure D, a voter-supported parcel tax. Measure D supports enriching programs for all ages, including storytimes, Summer Reading, after-school tutoring, tech help, art and author talks, and book clubs. It is critical to maintaining library operating hours, ensuring libraries are open and available for children, families, and seniors.
Complementing the operational support provided by Measure D, San Rafael voters also recently passed Measure P. Measure P was a citizens initiative sponsored by local residents and is dedicated to building a new library and community center at Albert Park. It represents a significant investment in our cultural and civic institutions and will be one of the largest capital projects that San Rafael has undertaken in recent years.
San Rafael’s libraries thrive because our community understands their everyday value.
