Private swim lessons

Lesson styles

We offer private, 30-minute lessons with a one-on-one student-to-teacher ratio. This lesson option is great if you want to preschedule dates and times that work for your schedule. Terra Linda Pool offers different types of private swim lesson options with wonderful instructors:

Personalized private lessons

Personalized private lessons that allow you to request a specific instructor or specific days and times. To request, complete the personalized lesson form at cityofsanrafael.org/private-swim-lessons/

Scheduled private lessons

Pick from already prescheduled private lessons that work best with your availability. This does not guarantee you a specific instructor, but you will be working with one of our wonderful instructors who will help you with your swim lesson needs. To register please visit our registration site and search for private lessons.

Volunteer opportunity

Aquatic aide

Grades: Entering 6th grade – entering 9th grade

This is your chance to make a difference while having fun and gaining on-the-job experience. Serve as an aide for swim lessons. This time commitment is Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-12:30pm. Includes set up, break down and making certificates with your instructor(s). You must be responsible, professional, reliable, and willing to interact with children.

If accepted, fee is $55. Each accepted participant will receive a free season pass to the Terra Linda Community Pool, a certificate of completion and a letter verifying volunteer hours.

Private lesson instructors

Do you need a more specialized instructor for you or your child? Two of our more experienced instructors who specialize in working with adults or children who need additional support in learning how to swim:

Private lessons with Vicki

Vicki is a private swim instructor teaching ages 3-teens, along with adults, beginners to those fine tuning their strokes. She has coached many levels of swimmers including high school & masters. Vicki has experience teaching students with neural diversity, especially ASD and ADHD and has an adaptive swim certification. She is a passionate life-long swimmer and was a competitive swimmer in college. She is currently a master’s & open water swimmer who enjoys the cold wild waters of SF Bay & Tahoe lakes. She is a certified master’s coach & lifeguard and has received great reviews from her students every year. Vicki says, “I’m pretty darn happy I get to do something as rewarding, needed and healthy as teaching swimming as an ongoing occupation.” To sign up for lessons with Vicki; please visit our registration site and search Private Lessons with Vicki to view her schedule and sign up.

Private lessons with Suzie

Suzie is a former swim team participant and spent many years coaching swim teams, including Claremont in Berkeley. Suzie swam with TAM masters and is a current member of the Dolphin Club in SF. She’s completed the ‘Triple Crown’ of Open Water Swimming, having swum the English Channel, Catalina Channel and around Manhattan. She loves helping people become more confident and competent in the water. She teaches all ages from 4-84 with a focus on technique and using your pool time efficiently. Her motto is ‘if you’re not fast, you at least want to look good while you’re swimming!
