NOTE TO PARENTS

This "Suggested School Route Map" is designed to suggest to students and parents good routes to school. Of all the routes available in the city, these were selected as the safest for our children. The routes provide a reasonable amount of protection yet still require personal responsibility by the pedestrian. The arrows show the suggested routes, but do not depict what side of the street should be used. Generally, pedestrians should walk against vehicular travel, wherever practicable.

The map is provided to assist parents in determining the safest and best routes for their children to travel to school. It does not, however, take the place of parental responsibility. Parents are ultimately responsible for the well-being of their children and therefore must decide which routes their children will use. All parents should teach their children safe walking habits. We recommend not only reviewing the map with children, but also walking the routes with them. Parents may also find the map useful in selecting routes to church, the store, the playground or even a friend's home.

At some locations, the Adult Crossing Guards and Student Crossing Guards are on duty to assist children. Parents should consider arranging departure times from home to coincide with the times the Guards are on duty in order to best utilize the assistance they provide.
