Awarding an Interim Contract to Harvard Protection Services, Inc., for Crossing Guard Services for the Month of September 2026 and Continuing Until Award of a New Contract, Pending Receipt of Bids

Whereas, by Resolution 24-0903-260, adopted September 3, 2024, the Borough of Somerville awarded a contract to Harvard Protection Services, Inc., 34 W. Main Street, Somerville, New Jersey 08876, for crossing guard services for the period of September 2024 through June 2026, which contract has now expired; and

Whereas, crossing guard services are essential to the safety of schoolchildren within the Borough and must be in place without interruption for the start of the 2026–2027 school year; and

Whereas, the Borough is presently soliciting sealed bids for crossing guard services for the remainder of the 2026 school year and the 2027 and 2028 school years, but said bids cannot be received and awarded prior to the commencement of the 2026–2027 school year; and

Whereas, Harvard Protection Services, Inc. has agreed to continue to provide crossing guard services on an interim basis at the same hourly rates in effect during June 2026 under the expired contract, as follows:

Whereas, the value of said interim contract will not exceed $10,000.00, which amount is below the bid threshold established pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-3, and the contract may therefore be awarded without competitive bidding; and
