Whereas, the Borough desires to seek grant funding through the Somerset County Historic Preservation Grant Program for improvements to and/or preservation of the Somerville Exempt Fireman’s Museum, aka West End Hose Company No. 3; and

Whereas, the proposed project is intended to preserve and enhance this historically significant property and support its continued use as a museum and community resource; and

Whereas, the Borough Council finds that submission of an application for grant funding is in the best interests of the Borough and its residents; and

Whereas, the Borough Council wishes to formally authorize and memorialize the submission of an application to the Somerset County Historic Preservation Grant Program for the aforementioned project.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, by the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Somerville, County of Somerset, State of New Jersey, as follows:

  1. 1. Authorization to Apply. The Mayor and Borough Council hereby authorize the submission of an application to the Somerset County Historic Preservation Grant Program for the preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and/or improvement of the Somerville Exempt Fireman’s Museum, aka West End Hose Company No. 3.
  2. 2. Grant Application. The Borough is authorized to seek grant funding in an amount of $186,872.
  3. 3. Authorized Officials. The Mayor, Borough Administrator, Municipal Clerk, and/or such other Borough officials or employees as may be designated by the Mayor or Borough Administrator are hereby authorized to execute and submit the grant application, certifications, supporting documentation, and any other documents necessary to effectuate the purposes of this Resolution.
  4. 4. Grant Administration. Upon notification of any grant award, the appropriate Borough officials are authorized to execute such grant agreements, certifications, reimbursement requests, reports, and other documents as may be required by Somerset County in connection with the administration of the grant, subject to applicable law and Borough procedures.
  5. 5. Funding. Any required Borough contribution or matching funds shall be subject to the availability and appropriation of funds and shall be provided in accordance with applicable law and the Borough's adopted budget.
  6. 6. Memorialization. The Borough Council hereby memorializes its support for the preservation of the Somerville Exempt Fireman’s Museum, aka West End Hose Company No. 3, and recognizes the importance of maintaining this historic resource for the benefit of present and future generations.
  7. 7. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

Be It Further Resolved, that a certified copy of this Resolution shall be provided to the appropriate Somerset County officials and any other parties as may be required in connection with the grant application.
